Alvarez triumphs in Pearl while McCullagh takes the Series
The Pearl-Qatar was the final venue for the Qatar National Triathlon Series. A five races series started November with Katara Triathlon, followed by Al Ghariya Triathlon in December, main event of the series was Doha Triatlhon in Mia Park in February. Penultimate event was in Lusail City in March and final one last Friday in Pearl-Qatar.
Almost 300 athletes including teams and kids participated in the so called “Sprint” event which featured 750 meters of swimming on Qanat Quartier beach, 20 km of cycling through main Pearl-Qatar roads and 5 km of running around Qanat Quartier. The race was very intense since it was a decisive for the final Series standings where best four out of five results counted.
Spaniard Aday Alvarez finally made it on top in open man after series of second and third places. Second place was won by Irish Bernard Mccullagh and third by Morrocan Rhaili Mouhcine. McCullagh who won Doha Triathlon and Lusail City Triathlon came on top of the Series with 995.28 points out of 1000.
In ladies open category, Isora Sosa Cabalero (Spa) won previous four races and continued with clean streak in Pearl. Daniela Sposi (Gbr) finished second and Gerda Maria Dimitru (Rom) was third. Cabalero winning all races gathered maximum 1000 points in the Series leaving no space for other competitors.
Veteran man race was won by Enzo Fascinato (Arg), second was Canadian Jody Sanderson and third Vicente Luis Catalan (Spa). In the series, the podium was won by athletes who didn’t won any events but were very consistent. Italian Manuel Micelli emerged on top with 965.55 points.
Ecuadorian Andrea Stadler won the race among Ladies Veteran. Hilda Allin (Rsa) was second and Anemarie Killshaw (Gbr) was third. Stadler won the series standing (978 points) winning Doha Triathlon respectively.
Qatari athletes are getting more competitive in each race. Mubarak Alajji won the Pearl-Qatar race in front of Ebrahim Alromaihi and Abdulla Shaheen Alkaabi. Alajji has won three races and won the overall standing with 985 points.
Saleh Almohannadi was the fastest among Qatari veteran men followed by Khalid Saleh Alqahtani and Essa Alkuwari. Nasser Almohannadi won the series with winning first four races and sscooping maximum available 1000 points.
Caroline Van Aartrijk won Qatari Veteran women race and the League competing and winning all five events.
